Staff and pupils at Wrekin College were celebrating today after receiving excellent A Level results. Personal and academic achievements were praised by teachers and parents, as many students learned they had gained places in some of the country’s top universities.
Commenting on the results retiring Headmaster Dr Haydn Griffiths said, “I am pleased with these results which are a tribute to the hard work of our pupils and staff. I am proud of the way our pupils have prepared for their A level exams, many of them balancing significant sporting, musical and other commitments while getting on with their studies. Wrekin has a wide academic reach and it is satisfying that the majority of our pupils have secured places at their first choice of university”
79% of results were at A*-C, with 28% at A* or A. Leading the way with A* grades in Psychology and Physical Education and an A in Mathematics, plus an A grade at AS Art is Head Girl, Natasha Coleman.
Other notable successes were local students Bryn Windsor with two A* and an A grade at A level, an A at AS level and an A* grade in the EPQ; Jake Walker gained one A* and 2 As plus A* in the EPQ; Josie North achieved 3 A grades; Sophie Blakstad A* and 2 As; David Pringle 3 As and a B in Further Mathematics; Holly Doran an A*, 2 As and an AS A grade, . Equally impressive were grades obtained by overseas students studying in effectively a foreign language. German Zili Zhang achieved 4 A grades; East European Scholar -Ukranian Vladyslav Melnychenko - gained 3 As and a B and Keisuke Tokura returns home to Japan with an A*, 2 As plus an A grade at AS too.
With the imminent opening of Wrekin’s new Business School, our unique educational offering where pupils gain practical business experience alongside their academic studies, it is encouraging to see the success and popularity of Business Studies, Economics and Psychology all of which gained 100% pass rates.
