GYMNASTICS AT WREKIN COLLEGE
Wrekin College has a long history of giving talented gymnasts the opportunity to train and compete alongside achieving academic success. All too often success in sport comes at the price of sacrificing education, however at Wrekin we know that it is possible to do both. British Gymnastic Champion, Laura Timmins and Commonwealth Games Silver Medalist, Rebecca Owen are just two of the many International Gymnasts who benefited from the opportunities presented at Wrekin College.
In conjunction with Park Wrekin College Gymnastic Club and led by International Performance Coach and BBC Commentator Christine Still, gymnasts who attend the school have timetables tailored made for them. Students combine school lessons with training both here at Wrekin Colleges’ excellent facilities and at Lilleshall National Sports Centre. Lilleshall, just eight miles from Wrekin College, is the home of British Gymnastics and is one of the foremost training facilities in Europe.
Those pupils who wish to take part in gymnastics at less intense level are also able to do so by choosing how much or little of the time allocated to sport they wish to spend in the gym. There is opportunity to compete at all levels or simply take part in gymnastics for fun. Older pupils who wish to develop as coaches also have the opportunity to work with the school teams and at the Club sessions.
