Over the weekend of 7 and 8 May, 24 boys did their Bronze Qualifying walk; the culmination of a year’s training.
The groups got off to a good start and were very soon walking up into thick cloud making navigation very challenging. As the day went on the groups began to work even better together and after a long hard and cold day they arrived at the campsite ready to pitch tents and cook their evening meals. The next morning they were up bright and early to the sound of a stunning dawn chorus, and they got going on their second day of walking. After the previous cold day the weather was stunning and they all worked really well together arriving at the end of their planned routes looking tired but happy. They were all a pleasure to work with and they really showed what they could do in an ‘open air classroom’ environment. They had planned their own routes, were not with staff and did not follow the other groups so they put all of the Wrekin R words into practice, perhaps with Resilience playing a major part! We were all really impressed with them.
Next weekend we have the Bronze girls going out followed by the turn of the Silver groups.
