Registration is the first stage of the admissions process, by which parents indicate their interest in a place for their child at Wrekin College. Parents fill in the registration form and pay a non-returnable fee of £100, thus securing a place for their child on the entry list for his/her year of entry. Parents normally visit the school before registration. We advise that children are registered by the end of Year 5 at the latest. Entrance examinations may not be taken unless a child is registered with the school.
The 11+ Entrance Examination is the basic requirement for entry to Wrekin College. It assesses potential pupils’ ability to cope with the academic life of Wrekin; if a pupil shows this potential and places are available, a place will be offered. No special preparation is required or expected for this examination.
The 11+ Entrance Examination consists of papers in Mathematics, English and Non-Verbal Reasoning. The papers are based on the existing Year 6 curriculum. Entrance exemplar papers are available for parents to view or download from our website.
The Academic Scholarship Examination is by invitation only. It is a competitive examination that must be taken on the day specified.
The Academic Scholarship Examination will include extension papers in Mathematics and English and a General Paper designed to test candidates’ general knowledge and their ability to think logically and creatively. Candidates will also be interviewed by the Headmaster. Academic Scholarship exemplar papers will be available for parents to view or download from our website. No special preparation is required or expected for this examination. Further details will be sent to parents whose children are invited to sit the examination.
Wrekin College Scholarship examinations can ONLY be taken on the dates published. Entry examinations may be taken on other dates by special arrangement with the Headmaster. Please note that candidates must be registered prior to the examination. We aim to notify parents of the results within one month of the exam dates.
