D of E Girls Bronze Day Walk

Sunday, 22nd January 2017 saw the final training day walk for the Fourth Form girls who are doing the Bronze Duke of Edinburgh's Award in the summer with three groups made up of 20 girls and two boys who had missed their walk the week before. During the past Monday’s activities sessions the group had been planning this day walk and this was their chance to see how the deskwork transferred to the hills, especially the route cards they had made.

Split into their individual group, the pupils went off into the hills, each with their own instructor. All pupils quickly demonstrated teamwork, map reading skills, use of the compass and the Country Code. The weather was very cold but not too windy and part way up Caer Caradoc the group entered cloud, which added to the challenge. All three groups met at the top where lunch was taken.

The groups greatly enjoyed their day and are now all set for the qualifying expeditions in the summer term and the first Bronze passes.
