Music Review

After a relatively quiet start to the term, the Music Department have been full speed ahead ever since.

Averaging two public performances a week and multiple rehearsals, all have made remarkable progress over this term and are to be congratulated on their efforts.

Whilst it is always difficult to pick out highlights, there have been some truly memorable performances: in particular the Chapel Choir’s performance on Remembrance Sunday and then the Jazz Band performance two weeks later at the West Midlands Regional Festival for the National Concert Band Festival, held here at Wrekin. The band were up against some of the finest in the country and heard two weeks later that at their first attempt they qualified to appear at the National Finals in Manchester in April.

We also raised £760 at our Charity Christmas Concert in early December.

The department would like to thank all of the pupils and teachers involved in every ensemble or band for their efforts and hope that the pupils will keep familiar with their instruments over the Christmas break as the postponed Christmas Concert showcasing this term’s work will take place the first week back on Friday 5th January.
