Prefect Thought for the Day

Are you a loyal person?

Many people support football teams, but sometimes when their team does not do that well they are not so loyal. However, Mrs Wright can be called ‘loyal’ as she is wearing her Villa scarf despite being in the bottom half of the championship.

Loyalty according to the Oxford dictionary is about showing constant support to a person or institution. To me loyalty is sticking with people, particularly through the tough times of life. It makes relationships work and makes them stronger.

Be loyal to your friends by not gossiping about them. Stick up for them and look out for each other. Most importantly settle for less than perfection and make allowances for human weaknesses.

It is important to be loyal towards your school by turning up to play for your school teams on Saturdays so you don’t let down your teammates. Be a team player.

Equally you must be loyal to your House. In the coming months you will be able to prove this by getting involved in the numerous House competitions. Will you volunteer for everything, even that tricky butterfly in the swimming gala. What is the worst that can happen? They gain the mutual respect from everyone because they gave it their best for their House.

Family demands your loyalty. They say blood is thicker than water; in other words family members must support each other. Maybe going to an older relative's  birthday meal is not as exciting as going to the cinema or going ice skating, but it is the right thing to do.

Hopefully we will not experience war in our lifetime, but this coming week we will remember those who certainly demonstrated their loyalty to their country by laying down their lives for our freedom and future.

Martin Luther said: “Where the battle rages, there the loyalty of the soldier is proved.”

Luckily, I am not asking this of you but I am asking you to show your loyalty to your friends, family, House and school.

Remember forget, forgive and if you are loyal and kind, you will find that more often than not, people are loyal and kind to you.
