Silver D of E Practice Walking Expedition

Friday 26 May saw the start of the Silver Duke of Edinburgh's Award Practice expedition for this year’s Lower Sixth. 29 students - about a third of the year - were keen to take part, which is encouraging.

The weather forecast was varied and very hot on the first day. The next day saw them doing a long walk in and around the Oswestry area. The students also practised their expedition aim, ‘Use and Abuse of Footpaths,’ which introduces them to the history and importance of these routes. Part of the aim involves a survey of public rights of way that are poorly maintained and obstructed. All the candidates were keen, enthusiastic and highly motivated and they are all greatly looking forward to the qualifying expedition in June.
