Silver DofE QualifyingTue 21 Jun 2016
Three teams of motivated pupils have just returned from a very successful Silver qualifying expedition, twenty pupils had signed up to do Silver and they were all very keen and well prepared. They were ready to go on Wednesday morning with a very long day of walking ahead of them.
The groups’ routes took them from near Bridgnorth to the Long Mynd and then on to the Stiperstones over a period of three days and two nights. Their project en route was Use and Abuse of Footpaths, surveying the state of the footpaths and public rights of way in the area as well as making the pupils a bit more knowledgeable about this unique British asset.
The weather threw almost everything it could at us and some of the downpours were incredible. Spirits, however, were not damped and all groups reached their campsites wet but happy.
All three days went very well in challenging weather and terrain and pupils learnt and achieved an impressive amount. The pupils are now very close to finishing their Silver Award and it is expected that most will choose to do Gold.
