1st XV lost 0-22 in the Schools Plate third round to King Edward's School, Birmingham. Despite an evenly matched second half, it proved too little too late for Wrekin as they allowed the opposition to gain a 0-17 lead at half time and KES Birmingham closed out the game well. On Saturday, the First XV lost 33-0 to Ellesmere College who were tough opposition; Wrekin held on well for most of the match.
The Under 14 team produced some astonishingly good rugby to win away at local rivals Ellesmere College, leading 22-0 at half time. Ellesmere fought back hard and scored a couple of forwards tries but Wrekin kept their discipline and tackled hard to see off the opposition. A memorable victory of 50-22. The man of the match was Seb Marmont.
This was a very busy week for a number of teams. The Lancasters played William Brookes School on Tuesday. The Under 13 A team won 7-1 and the Under 13 B playing William Brookes' Under 12s drew 3-3. The First and Second XI travelled to Cannock to play Solihull School. The Firsts played out a good 4-3 win but the Seconds lost 3-0. Then on Saturday, Wrekin took on Rydal Penrhos School. The Firsts came away with a comfortable 4-0 win, followed by a 1-0 victory for a mixed Under 15/Under 14 team. On a snowy pitch in Colwyn Bay, the Under 13s won 7-0, the Under 12A team 1-0 and the Under 12B, 7-1.
The senior team took on Ellesmere College on Wednesday. Wrekin had to work hard against Ellesmere in difficult conditions, but eventually were convincing 4-0 winners.
Congratulations to Malinda Davies in Upper Sixth who has been on trial with Shrewsbury Town FC Senior Ladies squad and has been signed for the club.
Thursday saw an exciting House Swimming event. There were some excellent performances and the winners were Tudor and Clarkson.
