Sports Update

The Lancaster girls hockey teams had their first run out this term on Wednesday. Comfortable victories by both Under 13s and Under 12s show great promise and Mrs Warner was pleased with their performances.

This week in rugby, saw the First XV beat Shrewsbury Sixth Form College in a nail-biter, 8-5.  The Under 17s, our prospective First XV, struggled to maintain a lead into the last five minutes, losing closely to Abraham Darby School on Saturday, 21-18. The Lancasters showed fight in their efforts against both Prestfelde School and Abraham Darby School - the result of the week saw the Under 15s play outstanding in their ruthless 53-0 cup win, finishing the game by half time, against a team they lost to in October.

The Senior Options football First XI made a good Tettenhall College side look very average with a quality display, resulting in a convincing 8-1 win. Honourable mentions go to Seb Rea for a commanding performance at centre-half.

Congratulations to Ben Crump.  He has been selected for the ISFA Under 17 National Squads Day Training Camp on Sunday 5th February taking place at Bedford School prior to fixtures commencing in early March.

In netball, the First team cruised to a 43-7 win over Bablake School. The Second team lost out but the Under 16s won comfortably.  On Saturday, five teams travelled to Ellesmere College. All teams won convincingly and the Under 13s continue their winning ways, cruising to a 52-3 victory. Congratulations to Beth Loveday and Pip Maddocks who represented Shropshire at the Worcester Arena Tournament on Saturday. Beth was named 'Best centre Court Player of the Tournament'.

Cross Country Team
In the Shropshire Schools' Cross Country Championships the Wrekin team performed extremely well on a tough hilly course at Oswestry School. All the runners deserve credit for the effort they made.

Our Senior Girls' team including Georgie Benbow and Hannah Blakstad were first and won the County Cup. Georgie (5th) was selected to represent Shropshire in the All England Schools' Championships to be held in Norwich on March 18th.

The Junior Boys team including Reuben Crombie, Joe Manton and Ross Corbett, were second and the team won four silver medals. Whilst the other five boys in the team all ran well too: Ollie Butters-Peers, Harry Sanders, Charlie Whiting, Jacob Crossley and Oliver Stott.

In the Year 7 race Charlie Whiting was 12th out of 44, in the Inter Girls Sophia Malpass was a brilliant eighth just missing selection for Shropshire and Lizzie Benbow finished tenth out 32. Finally, Tom Luton stepped in at the last minute and made his racing debut over a tough 6km to finish a creditable 23rd out of 35.
