Perseverance - Thought for the day
Perseverance is doing something despite difficulty or setbacks in achieving success; to me this is the most important trait for success, as when you look at the lives of those who have achieved success, you can often see perseverance in every accomplishment they make big or small. A good example of this is in revision, most of us have experienced a point in our revision where you wake up in the morning and want to do nothing more than binge on your favourite Netflix show, but if you had the perseverance to carry on then you would have realised it was all worth it on results day.
However, perseverance counts in more than just academic success, it defines our character. Everyone can be good when everything is going smoothly but it takes true grit and determination to stick around and continue to work on relationships and other frequently challenging areas of our life, despite things getting tougher. In Wrekin we are encouraged to be the best version of ourselves we can, how is this possible if we were to give up whenever we encounter an obstacle?
My favourite example of perseverance is one that I’m sure many of you have heard. J.K. Rowling suffered many struggles in life including depression and having the concept for her Harry Potter books rejected by many publishers, when the book series was rejected for the 11th time she was living on benefits and couldn’t find a job, but as you all know she continued to persevere and the 12th publisher she showed it to, Bloomsbury, decided to publish it, only because the CEO’s daughter loved it so much. Now she is regarded as one of the most successful writers of all time and has a net worth of over 1 million pounds. This really shows that it doesn’t matter how many times you get knocked down as long as you stand up and carry on moving forward, the hard work will pay off.
