As part of the careers programme Wrekin College Business School hosted a mock trial supported by lawyers from a local barrister's chambers and Lanyon Bowdler a firm of solicitors.
Pupils participated either as lawyers, the defendant, witnesses, court clerk, ushers and even a court artist. The trial established if the accused was guilty or not guilty of the dismal deed!
The event on 28th March was presided over by retired Shropshire County Court judge, Judge Robin Onions. Our pupils received counsel to prepare their cases from Lanyon Bowdler Solicitors, with Handelsbank and Morris & Co who sponsored the event.
An initial briefing meeting with the solicitors who have constructed the bundle took place in February in the Business School, and preparations will took place on Monday evenings after school throughout March.
A jury of 12 pupils, two drawn from each year group from second form to lower sixth, were invited to take part on the night. Parents and siblings of all participating pupils, as well as all interested staff attended.
What a fantastic event which was enjoyed by all - we look forward to repeating this in the future.
