Boarding Life

Boarding Life
Support and friendship, every step of the way
Our single-sex boarding houses - Bayley, Tudor and Hadden Hall, are warm, supportive homes where our pupils form friendships for life. We believe that Wrekin College should be a second family, and a second home for those who stay with us.
Our approach to boarding reflects our wider pastoral ethos: to provide a nurturing, family-like environment where pupils are known, safe and supported.
accomodation
Our boarding accommodation has undergone a full refurbishment programme, completed in 2024, and is spacious and of high quality. Pupils are housed in a mix of small sharing rooms and (especially for the older year groups) double or single rooms, some with ensuite or private bathrooms.
All Houses have a range of common rooms and other facilities such as kitchens and games rooms and are designed to be a place which pupils can call home.
Support and Wellbeing
At Wrekin College we put the wellbeing of our pupils at the centre of all we do and as such have a comprehensive and enviable pastoral system designed to ensure that any problems can be resolved quickly and easily.
Pupils have comprehensive pastoral support from House staff including their Houseparent and Assistant Houseparent, tutor, prefects or members of the peer support team. We also have a visiting school counsellor, Director of Wellbeing and an independent listener all available to offer support.
For any medical problems we have a dedicated Health and Wellbeing centre staffed by registered nurses. There is also access to a school doctor.
Student Experience
At Wrekin College, students join a close-knit, global community with personalised academic and wellbeing support, including small class sizes, tailored pathways into the British education system, and a rich international student life.
The school offers a wide array of academic enrichment opportunities—from debating and Model United Nations to subject clinics, peer mentoring, and the prestigious EPQ—designed to challenge and inspire. A strong co-curricular programme supports balance and growth, with leadership development, career guidance, competitive sports, musical excellence, and nationally recognised programmes like the Duke of Edinburgh Award and Combined Cadet Force.
Weekend Adventures
At Wrekin College, we’re proud to be a ‘home away from home’ for so many students, and we know how important an active social life is to making that experience truly special. Our Weekend Adventure programme takes full advantage of our beautiful, historic surroundings with trips to cities like London and Liverpool, watersports, escape rooms, shopping, and theme parks. Alongside TWIG socials and themed food nights, there’s always something fun happening to help you relax, make friends, and explore the UK.
twig
The Wrekin International Group, affectionately known as TWIG, is part of our pastoral support for our international boarders designed to help welcome and support them at Wrekin, and to promote inclusion and friendship for pupils across nationalities, Houses and year groups.
TWIG ensures that pupils are fully integrated into boarding life and provides them with additional social activities so they can connect with other international boarders. It also helps develop understanding of other cultures and nationalities.
TWIG holds special events throughout the year, along with other events based on national calendars such as Festa della Repubblica and Chinese New Year.
