Sport for all, for life
Excellence and Participation
We believe in excellence, partnered with a deep commitment to participation - sport for all, and for life.
Despite being a smaller independent school, our sporting prowess at Wrekin College is remarkable. We aim for very high standards in our core sports and offer an extensive range of options, with numerous different sports in every term. Above all, we believe in the power of sport for mental and physical wellbeing.
Here at Wrekin we encourage and imbue a love of sport which we hope our pupils will take with them for life, regardless of their individual abilities. Sport at Wrekin isn’t the preserve of the ‘sporty’, it belongs to all and the skills learned on the sports field, both in leading and working together for the good of the team, are essential for all aspects of school life. Sport is not all about victory, but participation; the huge variety of sports here means every pupil can find something to enjoy.
Something for Everyone
We have a hugely diverse games, PE and activities curriculum which provides opportunities to compete in many different sports. We maintain a very busy fixture list, particularly in our main sports (rugby, hockey, cricket and netball) and also compete actively in many other sports - including football, swimming, tennis, athletics, basketball, badminton, cross-country, squash, Fives, golf and fencing. We believe in giving as many pupils as possible the chance to represent their school in competitive fixtures. Netball is particularly strong at Wrekin, with our teams regularly qualifying for regional and national finals.
