Tailored Learning and Support for Future Success
We have a variety of A level and BTEC subjects on offer and cater to as many subject combinations, to help students study their desired subjects to meet their future career aspirations. Supporting our ethos, our small class sizes allow a good rapport to develop between teachers and students allowing individuals to flourish in their learning and gain a more individual studying experience.
Tutors meet with students to discuss academic progress and to monitor work/life balance. Staff are supportive and the short lines of communication within the school are always open to encourage regular discussion about academic performance.
Target Grades
Enabling every student to be their best
Regular reporting through our Target Grade system keeps students working at their best. We have high expectations of our students and encourage a passion for independent learning to help students excel further. Our goal is to equip students with the motivation to innovate and research for themselves, rather than simply being able to memorise syllabus material.
Academic Co-curricular
Opportunities Beyond the Classroom
At Wrekin College, academic life extends far beyond the classroom. Our dynamic co-curricular programme is designed to inspire, challenge, and engage students in a rich intellectual experience that prepares them for higher education and beyond. With a focus on curiosity, debate, research, and real-world application, our academic enrichment opportunities ensure that every student has the chance to thrive.
Our academic co-curricular progarmme includes workshops, lectures, debates, quiz nights, and academic trips, both locally and abroad.
EPQ
The EPQ: Developing Thinkers, Strengthening Futures
Students in Wrekin’s Sixth Form are given a further opportunity to extend their own independent learning on a topic entirely of their own choosing via the Extended Project Qualification (EPQ). With guidance from our academic staff, students embark on their own project, researching their chosen topic and producing a written report on their findings. They then present their research to an audience, and answer questions on it.
The EPQ is highly regarded at Wrekin College, with support and guidance every step of the way. It holds significant merit for both university admissions and prospective employers, as it demonstrates a student's ability to complete independent learning and critical thinking. EPQs are also worth UCAS points, making them a valuable activity for those wanting to apply for university.
