Embracing Creativity

Here at Wrekin Prep we encourage creativity, in whatever form that may take. As well as bringing in creative elements to academic lessons, we enjoy a dedicated Art Room including a potter's wheel, Innovation Centre, 3D printers, a Music and Drama studio and a suite of individual music practice rooms. Creativity and the Arts are part of the curriculum right from Reception. As our children move into Upper School they are taught by subject specialist teachers in Art, Innovation, Digital Technology (ICT), Music and Drama.

Music

Music is a prominent and vibrant feature in the life of the school. It is timetabled for all age groups and is taught by a subject specialist from Year 2. Our dedicated Music and Drama studio is much loved by pupils and forms the heart of our musical offering. A large number of pupils also take individual music lessons (additional charges apply) and we offer tuition on virtually all orchestral instruments in addition to piano, recorder, voice and drum kit.

The love of music at Wrekin Prep permeates through the school, and is never better demonstrated than in our morning concerts, which take place throughout the year. Pupils showcase their musical ability, no matter what stage they are at, to peers, staff and parents. We are also proud to have four choirs (Lower School Choir, Concert Choir, Chapel Choir and Chamber Choir) which take part in a variety of concerts around the county each year and our House Music competition is always fiercely contested!

Drama

Drama is much loved at Wrekin Prep and our fantastic productions have to be seen to be believed. In the Lower School our pupils' drama journey begins with our Reception pupils' Nativity at the end of just their first term at Wrekin Prep. Our Year 1 and 2 children put on their own fantastic Christmas concert, and all Lower School children take part in an end of year show, each year.

Drama is a subject timetabled for Years 3-6 and far from being a curricular luxury, we believe in the important role which drama can play in the development of a child. It helps develop self-confidence, teamwork, empathy and organisational skills, all important for every aspect of school life and beyond. Drama allows all children the chance to explore and develop ideas without the restriction of the written word. Apart from their timetabled drama lessons, our pupils also get the chance to take part in our Year 3 and 4, and later on Year 5 and 6, gala shows. 2025 saw our Year 3 and 4 children take part in a musical theatre showcase and our Year 5 and 6 children showcase their talents in 'Matilda'.

With professional standard lighting, theatre-style seating for audience members, and a live band to accompany the cast, our productions create memories which children and parents alike remember for a lifetime. LAMDA is also available as an extra-curricular activity.

Art

Our specialist Art Studio is always buzzing with excitement as pupils use various media to express themselves. Pupils experience so many forms of art from lino printing to pottery, from observational drawing to sculpture, that all find a new passion before they leave. The adventure culminates in a Year 6 Leavers' Exhibition where parents can look and see how much their children have learned during their time here.

Innovation

We are excited to have our very own Innovation Lab at Wrekin Prep which allows pupils to learn about material selection and product design for the modern world. We believe in hands-on creation! Together with our ICT suite and 3D printers we encourage our pupils to design, create and make.
