Wrekin Senior: 13+ entry (Year 9 to Year 11)

Joining Wrekin College in Year 9 is a natural entry point, as all of our pupils leave Lancaster House to join their senior Houses.

New friendship groups are formed and GCSE study begins. Year 9 is an exciting time as pupils start to prepare for their GCSE studies, join our CCF and gain more responsibility.

When joining Year 9 your child will become a member of one of our senior Houses; Tudor, York and Bayley for boys, Clarkson and Roslyn for girls. House spirit is strong at Wrekin and the numerous House competitions are hotly contested. Day pupils and boarders are fully integrated into Houses, with our day pupils benefiting from our boarding ethos, round the clock care and extensive activities.

Entrance Assessments for 13+ (Year 9 entry):

Entry to Wrekin at 13+ is by either the Wrekin College Entrance Assessment (the most popular route), or 13+ Academic Scholarship or Common Entrance. Once you have registered your child, you will be asked to complete one of the below options for entry.

13+ Entrance Assessment

This is the most popular form of 13+ entry and most candidates sit our Entrance Assessment which consists of online adaptive tests, plus an English paper. No special preparation is required or expected for this Assessment.

13+ Academic Scholarship

This consists of an online adaptive test, plus an English paper and an academic interview with the Head.

Common Entrance

This examination is for those children currently attending an independent school. It takes place at the candidate's prep school in May/June of the year of entry. Papers are sent for marking to Wrekin College as specified by the candidate.

There is no requirement for candidates sitting Common Entrance to take any other form of of exam, including our 13+ Entrance Assessment, to enter Wrekin College however, offers of a place will not be sent until Common Entrance papers have been marked.

Candidates may choose to sit the Wrekin College 13+ Entrance Assessment and any scholarship assessments which take place in the November of the year prior to entry, to secure a place before Common Entrance.

Scholarships

Wrekin offers a number of different scholarships for pupils who show exceptional ability and promise in a particular area, as well as the ability to inspire and act as a role model for others. Scholarships can be accompanied by a financial reward. The following scholarships are available for Wrekin Senior: Academic, Art, Music, Sport, Dance, Drama or All-Rounder (known at Wrekin as a Pendle Award).
