Life in Sixth Form
Love the journey
Shaping futures
A Dynamic Community Where Independence and Opportunity Flourish
Wrekin College Sixth Formers enjoy greater autonomy as they move to the most senior part of the school, and embrace a new, more senior, status within the pupil body. Students enjoy a different relationship with their teachers and many take on leadership roles.
Sixth Form
full of Opportunities
While in Sixth Form, our students have access to a range of opportunities to broaden their academic reach, including work experience, exchanges with schools including South Africa, Australia, Argentina and India, and advice on planning productive gap years. There is also the chance to do an Extended Project Qualification (EPQ); an extended study on a topic of your choice which not only impresses university admissions officers, but is worth UCAS points.
A dedicated Sixth Form Centre opened in September 2018 and offers our Sixth Formers a great space in which to socialise. As well as providing the Sixth Formers with a haven during the school day, the Centre is a base for social events in the evening. Our library and quiet study areas provide plenty of space to work.
Sixth Form Privileges
Freedom and responsibility
Life in Sixth Form at Wrekin brings more freedom balanced with responsibility, encouraging dedication to academic study and co-curricular involvement. Students who maintain high effort grades earn a Privilege Card, unlocking special perks and increased autonomy. These privileges reward sustained effort while helping students develop independence and manage their time effectively.
Exchange
creating memories and building friendships
Wrekin’s Exchange programme gives students the chance to live and learn abroad while hosting international peers, gaining valuable life skills that impress universities and employers. Students have visited schools in Australia, South Africa, India, and Argentina, returning with unforgettable memories and a broader global perspective. Past participants praise the experience for expanding their understanding of the world and building lasting friendships.
Lifeskills
preparing for life's next chapter
‘Our House’ is situated within the Wrekin campus, but is detached from other residences, to give students a feeling of independence. The experience of staying in ‘Our House’ is designed to resemble the practicalities and realities of university residential living and house-share accommodation. Residential groups comprise a maximum of six students, who live, cook, clean, study and relax together for a week.
