Love the Journey
foundation for life
From Wrekin to the world; confident, capable and ready
Education at Wrekin College is designed not simply to achieve exam grades, but to also prepare our students for life beyond Wrekin. We want our students to be the leaders of tomorrow and believe that a Wrekin education is a foundation for life, not just until the age of 18.
Ongoing support
When a student enters our Sixth Form they will enter into a new phase of our Futures programme. This offers support, guidance and knowledge as each student decides on the next stage of their educational journey, whether that be university, degree apprenticeships, apprenticeships, entrepreneurship or employment.
Enhanced UCAS support, leadership opportunities, careers guidance and our Employability curriculum all help to ensure that students are not just ready to leave, but ready to make an impact in whatever they choose to do next.
Life at Wrekin is further supported through lifelong membership to the Old Wrekinian Association which provides mentorship and connection opportunities.
UcAS
University Journeys
As students prepare to leave Wrekin, they explore a wide range of options, with most choosing to apply to university through UCAS. Our Director of Sixth Form, Head of Futures, tutors, and academic staff provide dedicated support with university and course choices, personal statements, and references to help students secure their first-choice offers. We also offer extra guidance for Oxbridge applicants, and in 2024, many students secured places at prestigious universities, including Russell Group institutions and top global universities like Toronto and Milan.
Pathways
Finding your pathway
At Wrekin, we recognise that each student’s future path is unique, and we work closely with them to find the best route—whether that’s university, apprenticeships, internships, entrepreneurship, or employment. Our Futures team provides personalised support to help students succeed in their chosen pathways. Through weekly career lectures and an annual Careers Festival featuring local and national businesses, we equip students with the knowledge and skills they need to thrive beyond Wrekin.
Leadership
Leadership skills for life
Leadership opportunities at Wrekin are key to developing confident, responsible students equipped with essential life skills like resilience, collaboration, and thoughtful decision-making. Through programmes like Character Adventure Training, the Duke of Edinburgh award, the Combined Cadet Force, and our Employability curriculum, students grow their leadership abilities in diverse ways. In Upper Sixth, students can also apply to become prefects, taking on important roles that inspire younger pupils and build a strong sense of responsibility.
Employability
Employability Programme
Employability is woven into life at Wrekin, teaching essential life skills that prepare pupils to become the employees, employers, and entrepreneurs of the future. Our Business School and whole-school programmes offer real-world experiences through guest lectures, enterprise projects like the student-run Expresso coffee van, and an annual Careers Festival featuring business leaders and workshops. These opportunities help pupils build connections, gain practical skills, and confidently step into their chosen careers
