Sports

Sport for all,
for life

Physical Education, Games and Swimming are viewed as vital elements of a full and rounded Wrekin Prep education.

The benefits and contribution of physical exercise to the general wellbeing of our pupils is evident throughout the whole school, from the youngest children making their first foray into the games arena to our older children, who represent both school and county in a variety of sports. We are lucky to possess superb sporting facilities including two sports halls, 25m indoor swimming pool, two artificial playing surfaces, extensive grass pitches, athletics track, netball courts and cricket nets.

Physical Education and Games

The breadth of sporting opportunities is wide and varied and children are encouraged to enjoy their sport and to respect themselves, each other and their opponents. In addition to swimming in the school’s 25m pool and PE in the Sports Hall, traditional competitive team games include football, rugby, netball, hockey and cricket. Athletics, both track and field, takes place in the summer term. There are regular home and away fixtures in all of our main sports, and we believe that every child should get the chance to represent the school on a regular basis. We aim to give our children a lifelong enjoyment for physical activity, regardless of ability, so that all can benefit from its physical and mental benefits. Our whole school Cross Country day is much loved every year, with all pupils from Reception to Year 6 taking part in their year groups, with varying race lengths around our extensive grounds. The culmination of our sporting calendar is our annual Sports Day, in which all children take part with in a day of sporting endeavour together with a whole school family picnic in our beautiful grounds; a lovely way to end the academic year.

Swimming

Every child from Reception, has a weekly swimming lesson in our superb 25m indoor pool with our expert swimming coach. Our children leave Wrekin Prep proficient, natural swimmers, confident in a number of strokes including front crawl, breaststroke, backstroke and butterfly. Our annual House swimming galas are a firm favourite in the calendar, with parents welcome to watch from our spectator area. We also offer a swim squad, for those who show particular talent, as well as a swimming club as part of our after-school Horizons programme.
