Ben Smith and Simon Platford MBE
Joint Acting Heads, Wrekin Senior and Sixth
Ben has been Deputy Head (Academic) at Wrekin since September 2021, having joined the school six years ago as Head of History and Politics. After being awarded the Edna Pearson Scholarship by the University of Birmingham to undertake postgraduate research, he trained to teach at Queen Mary's High School in Walsall. He then became the Head of History at Lichfield Cathedral School, where he was also responsible for careers guidance. He was subsequently Head of History at Edgbaston High School in Birmingham before moving into the heritage sector as the Director of Education and Learning at Worcester Cathedral. He is a Team Inspector for the Independent Schools Inspectorate and an Assessor for the nationally-recognised Sandford Award.
Simon joined Wrekin College in 2014 as Director of Music and joined Wrekin's senior team in 2022. As a teacher he has been a national finalist in the Classic FM music teacher of the year competition and in 2017 was nominated for the Musician's Union Inspirational Teacher award. Before joining Wrekin and the independent education sector he gained twelve years of senior leadership experience in two state schools so brings a wealth of leadership experience to his new role. In October 2014 Simon was awarded an MBE for his services to music education.

Craig Williams
Head of Wrekin Prep, Deputy Designated Safeguarding Lead
Craig Williams became the Head of Wrekin Prep in January 2026 having been Head of Abingdon Prep School in Oxfordshire for the previous eight years, and having taught in a number of the country’s top schools during his career. After attending Bradfield College as a pupil, he went on to gain his degree in Geography from Oxford University, and has since taught at prep schools in Sussex, Somerset, Berkshire, and Oxfordshire. A keen cricketer, Craig also enjoys teaching sport alongside academic subjects and will moved to the Wrekin Prep community with his wife Hannah, son Quinn, and yellow labrador Wicket.

The Senior Leadership Team at Wrekin Prep are the most senior members of staff who oversee all aspects of the school. They work closely with the Senior Leadership Team at Wrekin Senior.

Emma Crawford
Chair of Governors
Emma has been a governor since 2018. After leaving Wrekin in 1999, she trained as a doctor at The University of Manchester and returned to Shropshire in 2010 where she now works as a consultant respiratory physician and clinical lead for lung cancer services. Emma is married to Tim (also an Old Wrekinian) and lives on a lavender farm in Newport (Shropshire) with her three boys, who attend Wrekin, after previously attending Old Hall. Emma became Chair in October 2024.
