Employability Programme

Leaders of the future

Employability permeates everything we do at Wrekin College, to the first day of a student's journey with us, to long after they leave through the Old Wrekinian Association. If exam results open the door, employability teaches our students how to walk through it, and what to do on the other side. It is about the life skills needed to be the employees, employers and entrepreneurs of the future.

employability discussions

Employability is at the heart of Wrekin College, helping students to go into their chosen careers. Our Business School is an integral part of our employability approach. It provides students studying Accounting, Business Studies, Economics and Psychology with a dedicated environment where they can immerse themselves in the world of business. The whole school is also invited to experience guest lectures, life skill seminars and real world business challenges in our Business School to help them with their future careers.

Our weekly Academic Lecture Series sees industry professionals as well as a staff, students and Old Wrekinians talk to our pupils about a range of issues, including real-world knowledge about particular career paths.

EXPRESS-O

There are plenty of Employability opportunities within school as well, including our Express-o enterprise. A group of students proposed the idea to open a coffee-van which serves pupils, students and staff and appears at various school events. Wrekin invested in the enterprise and Express-o is now a living business run entirely by Sixth Form students. Each year the responsibility for Express-o is passed to a new Sixth Form cohort, meaning generations of Wrekinians getting valuable real-world business experience.

Careers Festival

Our annual Careers Festival helps our students learn about business, from real-life business leaders, through a series of workshops, panel discussions and an employer fair. Here, many of our students make connections that help not only with valuable work experience opportunities but also links for life post-Wrekin.
