DRAMA

DRAMA AND PERFORMING ARTS

THE POWER OF PERFORMANCE

At Wrekin, Drama is not just the preserve of those who choose to study it; we believe that everyone should perform in a play twice during their time with us, once in Year 7 and once in Year 9. Drama boosts confidence, and while it may be out of some pupils' comfort zones, all rise to the challenge. These plays are directed by Sixth Form volunteers, which bolsters their leadership and teamwork skills and encourages links across the age groups. All who perform in their Year 7 and 9 House plays remember them with tremendous fondness, and many opt to star in our school productions.

Professional quality productions

Our whole school productions have to be seen to be believed. The quality of these productions is superb; in recent years large-scale productions of Romeo and Juliet, The Sound of Music and Guys and Dolls have all delighted audiences, with many others too numerous to mention. These are all in addition to drama as part of the school curriculum, and open, via audition, to anyone who wishes to take part. Plenty of pupils also choose to improve their skills backstage with pupils assisting with sound, lighting, make up, costume set design, props and more.

Centenary Theatre

Wrekin's purpose-built Centenary Theatre seats 220 people and boasts state of the art sound, lighting and audio visual technology. With a spacious entrance foyer, part of our impressive Music School, it also has plenty of backstage spaces and dressing rooms, perfect for our large-scale productions. Productions can also be staged in our Memorial Hall, with seating and lighting hired in to enable us to do performances 'in the round'.
