Excellence in Education

Wrekin College is proud to have a broad academic range, and of our commitment to academic excellence.

At Wrekin College we are both proudly non-selective and proudly ambitious. Our pupils and students achieve exceptional outcomes, not just in the classroom but in the lives they go on to lead. Academic results matter and so does the context: every grade reflects hard work, expert teaching and a personalised approach that nurtures curiosity, confidence and potential.

We are especially proud of our outstanding value-added performance — the measurable progress each pupil makes beyond what they are expected to achieve based on their starting point. Students at Wrekin routinely achieve more academically than they would in another school, unlocking opportunities they may never have thought possible.

Whether a student aspires to Oxbridge, another university, a degree apprenticeship, employment or entrepreneurship, we support them to thrive on their own terms. Our results are measured not just by exam success but by the transformative journeys our students take — stepping into the future with the skills, values and self-belief to make their mark.

2025 A level and BTEC Results

Wrekin College celebrated another highly impressive set of A Level and BTEC  results as 87 per cent of students confirmed their first choice university - above the national average.

Teenagers were given confirmed places at some of the UK’s most prestigious universities including Oxford, Edinburgh, Durham and Manchester.

Wrekin’s Deputy Head (Academic) Ben Smith said they were delighted for students, adding that this year’s results clearly reflect their dedication and commitment to achieving their potential.

“There have been some outstanding performances with several students achieving either an A* or A grade in each of the subjects they study,” he added.

“We are also very pleased that many more have secured a place at a top Russell Group university to read some of the most competitive subjects such as Law, Mathematics, Philosophy and Geography. Two of our students will also be joining highly regarded apprenticeship schemes.”

More than three quarters were A*-C grades, an increase on last year, with almost a quarter at grade A or A* or above.
