GCSE Journey
DEVELOPMENT AND CONSOLIDATION
After foundations have been laid through the Lancaster Learning programme, pupils enter Year 9 ready to start their GCSE curriculum, as they work towards their first external exams taken in Year 11.
The core subjects for GCSE (or IGCSE) are English Language, English Literature, Mathematics and the Sciences (Biology, Chemistry and Physics). Pupils also select four subjects chosen from Art and Design, Business Studies, Computer Science, Creative iMedia, Drama, Economics, French, Geography, History, Music, Physical Education, Design Technology, the separate Sciences and Spanish. All pupils also follow supplementary courses in PSHEE through the tutoring system.
Early in the summer term Year 9 pupils take school exams in each of their subjects. Also early this term, each pupil will have a discussion with their tutor to consider which combination of subjects to study at I/GCSE and this can be further discussed at parents' evening. The combination should reflect the pupil's aptitudes and interests but should also address what may be needed in the future.
