LOVE THE JOURNEY

Nurturing Creativity and Confidence Through the Arts at Wrekin

At Wrekin, the creative arts—encompassing music, art, design, and performing arts — play a vital role in our pupils’ education and personal development. We believe that fostering creativity is essential to nurturing well-rounded individuals who can think critically, express themselves confidently, and collaborate effectively. Our state-of-the-art facilities and dedicated staff provide an inspiring environment where pupils can explore their talents, take creative risks, and achieve excellence across a wide range of artistic disciplines. From passionate beginners to aspiring professionals, every pupil is encouraged to engage with the arts and discover their unique voice.

Music

Excellence Through Opportunity

The impact of music on the lives of our children can never be overestimated. At Wrekin, we see music as an integral aspect of our pupils’ development. Our overarching goal is to inspire young musicians and encourage them to continually aim towards new musical horizons. We are excited to have a fantastic purpose-built Music School, opened in 2020. We encourage all pupils to be involved in music making, whether informally in class, or in one of our many ensembles. All pupils study music until the end of Year 9 when it becomes optional for GCSE and A level.

Art and Design

Creativity and Innovation

Wrekin College has excellent art facilities, including an art studio, design technology workshop and design rooms to help pupils reach their full creative potential. These spaces form the heart of artistic endeavour at Wrekin. All are vibrant spaces where creative ideas come to life and imaginations are made visual. Many pupils take up either or both subjects and the results of their hard work are displayed all over school.

Drama

Confidence and Creativity

Drama is taught as part of the English curriculum but also as a distinct subject at GCSE and A level, and we also offer BTEC Performing Arts when demand allows. Drama allows pupils to develop skills in:

  • exploring situations and character through imaginative experience and role play
  • to learn to work cooperatively with others in preparing for a performance and to build confidence in using the tools of performance skills such as voice, movement and interaction with others on stage.

Pupils will also study plays from a performance perspective, which involves plenty of visits to live performances.
