Exceptional Facilities and Lifelong Skills
At Wrekin Prep, we offer an exceptional education in our state-of-the-art, purpose-built prep school which includes a hall with theatre-style seating, a music and drama studio, an innovation lab, a significant number of sports pitches, a beautiful art room, a science lab, a library, an ICT suite and a dedicated dining hall. We share numerous facilities with Wrekin College, providing access to a 25m indoor swimming pool, sports halls, two artificial playing surfaces and a Chapel.
We are proud that all of our children, from Reception, enjoy weekly swimming sessions. Parents are invited to watch the annual House swimming galas, where the enthusiastic cheers fill the room. Our children leave with superb water confidence, many of them proficient swimmers, a vital skill for life.
A full day
Experts in Wrap-Around Care
We understand parents' need for expert wrap-around care to help juggle the logistics of daily life.
Our school day commences at 8.15am, with a Breakfast Club available in our dining room beforehand (a small additional charge applies), enabling parents to drop off their children from 7.30 am.
Lower School
In Lower School (Reception-Year 2) the official school day finishes at 3.30pm. However there is the option to stay for one of our superb co-curricular clubs and activities as part of our Horizons programme. Many of these are included in the fees, those run by outside providers do incur a small additional charge.
If your child stays for an activity the school day is extended until 4.20pm. Lower School children can then stay for tea club (a small extra charge) where your child can enjoy some food and activities before pick-up. Tea club extends the Lower School day to 5.30pm.
Uppper School
In Upper School (Years 3-6) the official school day finishes at 4.20pm. Again, many choose to attend one of our superb co-curricular clubs and activities as part of our Horizons programme. If your child stays for an activity the school day is extended until 5.30pm.
Horizons
The Horizons programme has a comprehensive range of different after-school activities designed to enhance and expand on our already excellent curriculum focused on four key areas - sports, academia, the arts and life skills
Our school day timings have been designed with parents in mind; Lower School and Upper School siblings can be collected at the same time, and also at the same time as any children attending Wrekin Senior.
Food
well-balanced, nutritious and varied
All pupils eat lunch in the Ward Room, accompanied by staff, where they are encouraged to exercise good table manners. Meals are well-balanced, nutritious and varied and the children are encouraged to adopt a healthy attitude towards food. They are also encouraged to try new flavours and textures in order to expand their tastes.
We provide an extremely high standard of dining for our pupils, prepared by our award-winning catering company, Holroyd Howe.
Holroyd Howe operate solely within the independent schools market. They focus on fresh, nutritious and innovative food, whilst providing a tailored experience for pupils, staff and visitors.
Holroyd Howe’s chefs take pride in sourcing and using the best seasonal, local produce available to create exciting menus; these include traditional favourites, international dishes, healthy and sustainable options.
The catering team works closely with Wrekin Prep to ensure that the nutritional needs, allergies, dietary requirements, preferences and desires of all pupils are consistently and thoughtfully met.
Our pupils are encouraged to try new foods, Holroyd Howe provide Tasting Tables, theme days and Food Explorer days, these are age-appropriate and encourage even the fussiest of eaters to try something new!
First Aid and Medical Care
All children feel under the weather from time to time, and as every parent knows, grazed knees are a regular occurrence! However, we have a dedicated first aid room, staffed by two first aiders, known to the children as Matron.
Our Matrons, Sarah and Emma, are on hand to patch up wounds, distribute medication, make children feel better, provide a friendly face and ring home when necessary.
Uniform
Buying your uniform for Wrekin Prep is easy. Our uniform is provided by School Shop Direct and we have our own uniform shop on site. When you join us you will be invited to book your own personal slot to ensure you have the time to get everything you need. You will be advised what to buy. The shop is open at certain times during term time for anything you need to replace once outgrown. You can also order online from School Shop Direct or visit their shop in Shrewsbury.
a natural pathway
The Wrekin Journey
The natural pathway after Wrekin Prep is Wrekin Senior. Located on the same campus; we are in separate buildings but share many common facilities and resources. These links give Wrekin Prep access to a plethora of superb facilities which many prep schools are envious of. The majority of our pupils make the natural progression to Wrekin Senior after Wrekin Prep where they can keep old friends and make new ones, and feel 'at home' while also experiencing the 'butterflies' of going to 'big school'; an important part of growing up.
The prep community
The Friends of Wrekin Prep
The Friends association is Wrekin’s equivalent to a PTA. The Friends are made up of a dedicated group of parent and staff volunteers who help organise social events as well as raise funds for additional projects. The Friends contribute to the strong community feel at Wrekin Prep, and are a brilliant way to get to know people.
