Academic Lecture Series Inspires Curiosity and Critical Thinking

This term’s Academic Lecture Series has provided pupils with a stimulating range of topics designed to extend learning beyond the classroom and encourage intellectual curiosity.

The programme began with “Chivalry: An Intersectional Approach to Deconstructing and Problematising Mediaeval Performances of Gender”, delivered by Mr Asch, Head of History and Politics. Subsequent lectures included Mr. Dean Bracher from Animal Aid, who explored “Animals at War: The Role of Animals in the First World War” and “Creating a Sustainable Future: Strategies in Food and Resource Management.”

Further sessions featured Mrs Stevens, Teacher of Modern Foreign Languages, presenting “Why Languages Matter: The European Day of Languages,” and the English Department leading “Critical Approaches to Of Mice and Men You Won’t Find in SparkNotes.” The series concluded with an inspiring talk by Old Wrekinian Jake Thorpe, “Cycling 12,000 Miles from London to Cape Town.”

Together, these lectures have offered pupils valuable insights across disciplines, from literature and history to sustainability and global awareness, showcasing the breadth of academic engagement within our community.
