Benjamin Zephaniah Inspires Year 4
In recognition of Black History Month, 4W have been studying the work of celebrated poet Benjamin Zephaniah. Through his powerful poetry, pupils explored themes of identity, justice, and equality, and reflected on how language can be used to challenge prejudice.
Inspired by Zephaniah’s words, the children went on to create their own poems about racism and respect, expressing their thoughts and feelings with creativity, honesty, and empathy.
This learning not only deepened their understanding of such an influential writer but also gave pupils an important opportunity to engage in discussions about fairness and inclusion, while developing their own voice as young writers.
