Celebrating the Joy of Nursery Rhymes

Our pupils have been celebrating World Nursery Rhyme Week with songs, stories, and creative activities

This week, we’ve been celebrating World Nursery Rhyme Week, and it’s been wonderful to hear children humming, singing, and chanting nursery rhymes across the school!

Nursery rhymes are known to boost children’s language, creativity, physical development, numeracy, confidence, and understanding; truly rocket fuel for learning.

Reception met with their Year 6 buddies to learn new rhymes, and built a wall for Humpty Dumpty, sorting words by middle sounds linked to their Book of the Week, The Three Little Pigs.

Year 1 enjoyed singing favourite rhymes and exploring action rhymes, while Year 2 read Dear Mother Goose and wrote letters to rhyme characters with creative solutions to their problems. One child even shared a beautifully handwritten nursery rhyme book by her grandmother from India.

At Puzzle Club, children crafted Incey Wincey Spiders, and in Little Builders, they constructed a new wall for Humpty Dumpty, complete with models of the King’s men.

It’s been a joyful week celebrating the magic of nursery rhymes and the creativity they inspire!
