EPQ Presentations Showcase Impressive Range of Independent Research
Upper Sixth students recently delivered their Extended Project Qualification (EPQ) presentations across two evenings, showcasing an exceptional breadth of interests and expertise. Topics ranged from Latin American economics and Vietnamese architecture to the technical and creative processes behind music production.
The EPQ offers students the opportunity to delve deeply into a subject they are passionate about, extending far beyond the standard curriculum. Through the project, students gain invaluable experience in independent research, academic writing, and public speaking—skills that are highly valued in higher education and the workplace.
At Wrekin College, the EPQ is held in high regard, with students receiving guidance and support at every stage. The qualification carries significant merit for university applications, as it highlights a student’s ability to think critically, manage a substantial project, and work independently. EPQs also contribute UCAS points, making them particularly valuable for those planning to progress to university.
Under the mentorship of our academic staff, students build their project from the ground up: selecting a topic, conducting thorough research, and compiling a detailed written report. The final stage—presenting their findings to an audience and responding to questions—provides a challenging yet rewarding culmination of their efforts.
This year’s presentations were a testament to the curiosity, creativity, and dedication of our students, and we congratulate them all on their impressive achievements.
