futures lecture series supports Pupils in Exploring Career Pathways

Wrekin pupils have been attending and taking part in a series of Futures Lectures designed to provide first-hand insight into a wide range of career pathways and support informed decision-making about future study and employment.

The first session was led by Beth from Shropshire Festivals, who provided an engaging introduction to the world of event management. Pupils learned about the importance of planning and logistics, as well as the creativity and problem-solving skills required within the industry.

A Wrekin Prep Early Years teacher, Miss Griffiths, shared first-hand insight into a career in Primary Teaching. The talk offered a valuable perspective on routes into the profession, training and entry requirements, and the day-to-day realities of working in a primary school. Pupils were encouraged to explore their interests further, including opportunities to arrange work experience at Wrekin Prep.

We were also joined by Dr Wendy Nicholls, who focused on pathways into Psychology. The session explored university degree routes alongside a broad range of related career options, highlighting how Psychology links to key areas including education, health, business, and research. With a specialist focus on health and eating-related topics, the talk was particularly relevant for students interested in nutrition and wellbeing. Pupils also gained valuable insight into what universities look for in Psychology applicants. Upper Sixth students, Harvey and Dax, led the interview, asking thoughtful and insightful questions throughout the session.

Continuing the series, pupils attended a talk on property led by Richard from Hudson Property Group, which introduced students to careers and opportunities in the property sector. Pupils were actively engaged, asking questions and exploring different aspects of the profession. They also heard from Sanjeev from SP Legal Solutions, a local solicitor who shared his career journey and offered guidance for students interested in law and related fields.

These sessions reflect Wrekin’s commitment to providing pupils with meaningful exposure to a wide range of career pathways, helping them develop ambition, confidence, and a clear understanding of future opportunities.
