Year 2 Discover, Cook, and Explore at the Shropshire Hills Discovery Centre

Bringing learning to life through cooking, creativity, and exploration

Our Year 2 pupils enjoyed a wonderful day out at the Shropshire Hills Discovery Centre in Craven Arms; their first trip of the school year!

The day began with the exciting ‘Field to Bowl’ workshop, which linked perfectly to the children’s Science and Design Technology topics, Healthy Eating and Remarkable Recipes. Pupils rolled up their sleeves to chop, slice, and dice vegetables from the allotment to create a seasonal vegetable soup, and took turns kneading dough to bake fresh bread. It was a brilliant opportunity to explore food, nutrition, and healthy eating.

Afterwards, pupils explored the Time Exhibition, where they met the famous Condover Mammoth and discovered fascinating stories of local people, places, and history.

The afternoon was spent outdoors as the group ventured into the beautiful grounds to take on an orienteering challenge, working together to navigate the landscape and put their teamwork skills to the test.

It was a day filled with discovery, creativity, and outdoor adventure; a fantastic example of how learning outside the classroom helps to spark curiosity and bring subjects to life.
