Year 5 and 6 Explore Cross-Curricular Art Projects
Pupils in Years 5 and 6 have been exploring cross-curricular links between Art and their wider learning.
Year 5 have been studying Chinese Dynasties in History and extended this knowledge into Art by creating their own Taotie masks. Pupils used card, string, tissue paper, paint, and pens to construct their masks, carefully choosing two harmonious colours and thinking about highlights and shadows to create visual impact. This hands-on project allowed the children to engage creatively with historical culture and symbolism.
Meanwhile, Year 6 have been studying the Frozen Kingdoms in Geography and applied their learning in Art by producing monoprints of endangered Arctic species. Building on earlier realistic animal drawings, pupils created frosty, textured prints which will later be enhanced with painted backgrounds. This project combined scientific and geographical understanding with practical artistic techniques.
