100 Years of York

The celebrations to mark the centenary of York House were launched on Friday, with a spectacular cricket and social evening, which brought together past and present members of York House, alongside staff and parents.

Neil Griffiths, current OWA Chairman, Governor, and Old York welcomed guests alongside Jonathan Mather, current York Housemaster. Another Old York, Peter Buckley, now President of the OWA, presented current York pupils with a commemorative tie to wear with pride this year.

The OW York XI took on the current York House XI cricket team. The OWA York XI won the toss, chose to bat and set a competitive 134-2 from the twelve 8-ball overs, with Ed Udale scoring 40 not out, the key run scorer and anchor. In reply, Will and Arthur set the pace, with Arthur finishing undefeated on 41. A quick fire 20 from Jack set up a close finish, handing over to Will for the last three overs. Needing 5 of 4 balls, Will went 'big' down the ground, clearing a 'leaping' Neil Griffiths on the boundary edge. After a thrilling match the York XI snatched the victory. As well as the cricket there was pizza and drinks on a wonderful sunny evening.

The event was a wonderful celebration of York House, bringing together Old Yorks and current pupils, and certainly kicked off the centenary in style.
