A Visit from Farmer Ian Brings Farm Life to the Classroom

Old Wrekinian shares his hands-on insights into modern farming

We were delighted to welcome Farmer Ian, an Old Wrekinian and local farmer, who visited school to share his fascinating insight into life on the farm.

Farmer Ian grows wheat, barley, oilseed rape, and potatoes, and pupils were captivated as he explained how these crops are grown, harvested, and stored. The class had the opportunity to take a close-up look at how a combine harvester works, learning how this incredible machine helps bring in the harvest efficiently.

They also discovered how crops are carefully stored in sheds over the winter to keep them safe until they are ready to be used. It was a wonderful, hands-on learning experience, giving pupils a real appreciation for the work that goes into producing the food we eat.
