Academic Lecture Series - Lent Term
This term, pupils ENJOYED a series of academic lectures spanning music, law, and beyonD. Each session combined expert knowledge with engaging delivery, encouraging curiosity and reflection across a wide range of disciplines.
The lecture 'Practising Law Around the World' offered pupils an insightful look at the diversity of legal practice worldwide. Delivered by Old Wrekinian, Colin Fergusson, who enjoyed a long and distinguished career as an international lawyer, the session highlighted the variety and complexity of legal work across different jurisdictions. Through his experiences, Mr Fergusson conveyed both the challenges and the fascinating opportunities the law presents, leaving attendees with a deeper appreciation of its global scope and impact.

The lecture 'From Fugues to Footlights', delivered by Tsemaye, Upper Sixth, offered a retrospective journey through Western music, tracing its development from the contrapuntal mastery of the Baroque era, through the refinement of the Classical period, to the expressive vibrancy of musical theatre. The speaker provided a thorough overview of key composers and works, while engaging the audience with interactive show-of-hands questions. Tsemaye, left attendees with a richer understanding of the historical continuity and evolution of musical styles.

Our penultimate lecture in the Lent term, titled 'Like Father ‘Almost’ Like Son – The Royal Flying Corps' during the First World War, was delivered by historian and Old Wrekinian Mr Roger Bragger. He shared compelling personal stories connected to alumni, providing pupils with a vivid insight into the experiences of those who served in the Royal Flying Corps. Through these narratives, the session highlighted both the historical significance and human dimension of the First World War, leaving attendees with a deeper appreciation of the past and its connection to the school community.
