Academic Lecture Series - so far!
Each week so far this term we have been treated to a fascinating lunchtime Academic Lecture from staff and external speakers about subjects such as The London Underground, Clinical Trial Research, Democracy and Psychiatric Harm Laws.
Former Wrekinian, Monica Harley (Lancaster, Clarkson) gave the first Academic Lecture of the term on her experience as a Clinical Research Manager. Monica talked about her career path from a student at Wrekin, to her current work managing clinical trials for possible treatment of Alzheimers. It was a fantastic talk, and a great opportunity to learn more about a career path founded from a love of science.
The second lunchtime lecture was presented by our very own Mr Blanch, Head of Business School. He delivered a fascinating presentation on the London Underground, mixing up a little history with some great facts.
Next, Mr Ashington-Carter, Teacher of Business delivered an interesting talk entitled 'To what extent is the law on psychiatric harm a patchwork quilt of distinctions that are difficult to justify?’ Delving into various court cases from over the years, it was fascinating to hear the controversy and sometimes questionable outcomes on claims that have been put in for psychiatric harm after an event or occurrence.
The final lecture of this half of term was given by Mr Richard Barge, Solicitor and Family Law Consultant and was entitled "Democracy and The Rule of Law". Furnishing our pupils with fantastic history and information on both Democracy and Law, he then ended by answering some great questions and generated interest to know more.
