Art Round-Up: Creativity Inspired by History and Culture
It has been a busy and creative week in the Art Department, with pupils drawing inspiration from both their classroom learning and educational visits.
Year 3 have been exploring Roman art alongside their history studies and have begun constructing their own mosaic coasters. Taking inspiration from the intricate designs created by the Romans, pupils have carefully planned and assembled their mosaics, producing some fantastic work so far.
The class have also been experimenting with a range of mixed-media materials, including string, card, foil and pen, to create Roman coin designs complete with decorative mosaic borders. The project has provided an excellent opportunity for pupils to combine their artistic skills with their historical knowledge.
Meanwhile, following their recent visit to a mosque, Year 4 have been learning about Islamic art and its distinctive patterns and geometric designs. This week, pupils began creating their own clay tiles, drawing on the artistic traditions they observed during their visit. The project has encouraged careful craftsmanship and an appreciation of the rich cultural heritage reflected in Islamic art.
We look forward to seeing both year groups' projects develop over the coming weeks and celebrating their finished creations.
