Creativity in the Art Room at Wrekin Prep

From expressive painting and Viking shields to animal printmaking, pupils at Wrekin Prep have been exploring a range of artistic techniques and materials across the curriculum.

Year 5: Exploring expressive painting

As part of their Black History Month learning, Year 5 have been looking at the work of artist Corey Barksdale and experimenting with his expressive acrylic painting technique. Pupils explored bold colour combinations and expressive marks to create their own artwork inspired by his style.

Year 4: Viking shields

Year 4 have been bringing their history topic into the art room as they created their own Viking shields. Using a wide range of materials, pupils experimented with different textures, shapes and designs to develop their own shields.

Year 3: Animal printmaking

Following their recent ZooLab visit, Year 3 have been creating their own animal-inspired prints. They have been experimenting with colour combinations and textures to produce a wonderful collection of prints inspired by the animals they encountered.

Across all three projects, pupils have had the opportunity to experiment, make creative choices and develop their artistic skills through hands-on work.
