End of Term Sports Report

Athletics

It has been a very successful term in Athletics for pupils from Lancaster through to Fourth Form. The Under 13 Boys team won the Bayley Mile, with Chloe and Charlie winning their age group races.

Up to 65 pupils regularly represented the school at the Telford Schools Championships and Shropshire Championships, with some excellent results. Individually, Chloe broke the track record for 3000m and School record for the 1500m; Chloe was also a reserve for the England Schools Cross-Country team. Sydney continues to excel on the track at 80m Hurdles and sprint events. With a PB at the recent Inter-Counties, she goes forward to the English Schools Finals in July. Sydney has also broken a few school records this term.Fencing

This year saw the first ever House Fencing Competition in the Wrekin's 144 year history. A President's Cup Championship took place which saw Tudor winning the House Cup. Master at Arms medals were also won by Ansel in Foil, Ekman in Epee, and Leo in Sabre.

Tennis

This year has been a successful year for Wrekin Tennis with our Under 15 and Under 13 Boys and Girls competing in the LTA Shropshire Division 2 leagues, whilst our Under 18s competed in a range of fixtures against local opposition. Our Under 15 boys went on to finish 2nd in their division with some impressive results throughout the season. A highlight of Wrekin tennis this year is our Under 13 Boys team who finished top of division 2 without losing a single set all season! The House matches were won by Clarkson and Tudor.Cricket

It has been another successful year of cricket at Wrekin. Despite the start of the season being a wash out, we were still be able to fulfil over 100 fixtures for both boys and girls. The 1st XI and Under 17s had significant victories against formidable opponents, including Solihull, Manchester Grammar, and Rugby School.

The Under 17s made the National Plate Semi-Final, a terrific team effort. Toby has led the team admirably and has gelled the group into one of the best seasons a team has had for many years. Will has continued to impress with the ball, and the highlight for Will will be his five wickets against The MCC. Another highlight of the school cricket calendar was the annual Prep School cricket tournament where we had over 260 students playing in more than 70 matches. Well done to everyone involved.

The Girls' teams have had a mixed season, with good games against Shrewsbury School, Ellesmere College and Moreton Hall. We have some very promising players coming through which will onlystrengthen the teams in years to come.

The Under 15 Boys have had some excellent matches and were unlucky not to win the County Cup final against Shrewsbury and progress further, however, this is an excellent group of players thathave worked hard in their morning sessions and this paid off with good wins against Old Swinford Hospital, Ellesmere College and Haberdasher Adams’.

The Under 14s have had a successful season and they have improved tenfold since last year. Excellent wins against The King’s School Chester, Ellesmere College and Old Swinford Hospital. Ollie,Oliver, Sam and Harry have led the way with some good batting and bowling performances. The House matches were won by Clarkson and Tudor.
