Fifth Form Artists Visit London

Fifth Form GCSE Art pupils travelled to London to visit the Saatchi Gallery and the National Portrait Gallery as part of their preparation for the Set Task Unit.

At the Saatchi Gallery, pupils enjoyed an extensive tour of the exhibition celebrating 40 years of the gallery’s collection. The visit exposed students to a wide range of artistic approaches, including interactive installations, film, photography, printmaking, sculpture and painting, encouraging them to explore new ideas and creative techniques.

Led by Mr Phillips and Mrs Jagger, the group then travelled to central London to visit the National Portrait Gallery, where pupils studied both traditional and contemporary portraiture. The contrasting collections offered valuable insight into how artists across different periods have approached portraiture.

Sketches and photographs gathered during the day will be used by pupils to develop practical responses in their sketchbooks, directly supporting their GCSE coursework.
