Futures Lecture Series

This half term, our Futures lectures offered students an engaging insight into a variety of career paths, spanning healthcare and business industries. Each session provided both inspiration and practical guidance, helping students understand the skills, training, and opportunities available in different fields.

The half-term began with a fascinating lecture on facial reconstructive surgery delivered by Samantha Bunn, a practising maxillofacial prosthetist. Students were introduced to the intricate combination of science and artistry that defines this field. The session explored key skills required for a career in facial reconstruction, discussed potential career pathways, and offered advice on how students can prepare effectively for work in this life-changing area of medicine.

James D., Partner at Azets Shrewsbury, provided an insightful overview of accountancy. The session explored various career pathways, including In-House and Practice-based roles, and highlighted the core competencies valued by employers. Students gained a clear understanding of the opportunities available within the profession and the skills that can help them succeed.

Our penultimate session was delivered by Kirsty Smallman, Managing Director of PR and social media agency J&PR Ltd, who shared her expertise in public relations, media, and marketing. Kirsty discussed how PR campaigns are planned and delivered, the differences between traditional and digital communications, and the role of storytelling in shaping a brand’s public image. Pupils also learned about career opportunities in PR, marketing, content creation, and event promotion, as well as the training and mentoring that support professionals in these fields.
