Honouring the Fallen: Wrekin’s Remembrance Observance
The school community gathers to honour service, sacrifice, and memory
Throughout the month of November, the Wrekin community came together in a spirit of reflection, gratitude and respect as we marked this important period of Remembrance. Across a series of moving moments and gatherings, pupils, staff, parents and Old Wrekinians united to honour all those, with special mention of the many Old Wrekinians, who made the ultimate sacrifice for our freedom.
During our school Remembrance service, pupils stood in representation of each Old Wrekinian named on the Roll of Honour, ensuring that every name was acknowledged with dignity. As poppies were laid gently on the chancel steps, pupils, staff, and parents paid their personal silent tributes, creating a powerful collective act of remembrance.
Our CCF once again marched through Wellington, joining with other local organisations to pay their respects at the town’s memorial. Their presence reflected the enduring connection between Wrekin, the local community, and a shared commitment to remembering those who served.
As part of this year’s commemorations, Wrekin’s new Remembrance flag flew proudly throughout November, serving as a visible symbol of our respect and deep gratitude to the Old Wrekinians, and to all those in the wider community who gave their lives in service. We extend our thanks to the Old Wrekinian Association for donating this flag, along with several others that will be seen around the campus in the coming months.
On Armistice Day, the Wrekin community gathered once more at 11 o’clock for a solemn act of remembrance. Led by Mr Platford and supported by our talented musicians, The Last Post and Reveillé were performed outside the Chapel as the school fell silent, pausing to honour the courage and sacrifice of all who have served.
We are proud to share that, through the generosity of pupils, staff and families, the Wrekin community raised £624.55 for the Royal British Legion, supporting their vital work with the Armed Forces community.
