Junior House Debating
The second half of term saw the standard of debating increase as Houses tried to get to the anticipated final of the Junior House Debating competition. The motions debated have varied and designed stretch the skills of those representing their Houses.
The competition this year has been so close a three-way play-off was required to decide who would join Clarkson in the grand final. Roslyn, Bayley and York debated whether Shakespeare, Newton or Da Vinci have had the most impact on human understanding. the strong competition demonstrated how well our pupils have developed their argumentative skills.
However, the final of the Junior house debating was contested by Clarkson and York. They debated the motion 'This House believes that the next James Bond should be a woman'. The standard of debating was fit for a final, with lots of great questions from the floor. Adjudicators Mr Spence and Mr Smith had a tricky decision to make, however the winners were…York!
Congratulations to everyone who represented their Houses throughout the competition, whether they have an established passion for debating, or it was their first time taking to the floor.
