The Great Green Island by Becky Colvin

The Great Green Island is a beautifully illustrated picture book that takes children on a magical adventure with Ali, a curious and nature-loving girl who lives on a bustling island community. When all the fish mysteriously disappear, Ali and her dad set out to uncover the island’s secret – discovering that their home is much more extraordinary than it seems.

This enchanting story blends mystery, adventure and a gentle environmental message, encouraging children to slow down, explore the natural world and share experiences with others. With rich, atmospheric illustrations and an engaging storyline, it is ideal for children in Lower School and makes a wonderful book for sparking discussion about nature, imagination and family.

We highly recommend The Great Green Island for shared reading at home – a captivating story that invites young readers to see the magic in the world around them.

Wildlands by Brogen Murphy

Wildlands is a thrilling and thought-provoking adventure set in a near-future Britain where large areas of land have been rewilded and humans are no longer allowed to enter. When thirteen-year-old Astrid and her younger sister Indie are accidentally left behind in this vast, untamed landscape, they must use their courage, creativity and teamwork to find their way home.

Full of suspense and stunning descriptions of nature, this gripping story explores themes of survival, family, resilience and our relationship with the natural world. It also offers an exciting introduction to ideas about conservation and rewilding, sparking curiosity and discussion about how we can care for our planet.

Ideal for confident readers aged around Years 5 and 6, Wildlands is an engaging and inspiring read that will appeal to children who enjoy adventure stories and nature-themed books.
