Half-Term Sports Round-Up: A Season of Success and Team Spirit at Wrekin


It’s been an incredible half term for Wrekin sport, with teams and individuals across disciplines showing exceptional skill, determination, and teamwork. From national competitions to local triumphs, here are some of the highlights.


Cross Country
English Schools Fell Championships
Congratulations to Chloe, who represented Wrekin at Sedbergh and achieved an impressive 3rd place in the Year 10 and 11 Girls’ race; a fantastic achievement in a highly competitive field.


Netball
It’s been a phenomenal half term for Wrekin netball, with outstanding performances across multiple age groups.

Our Under 16 Netball Team were unbeaten at the County Championships, joining the Under 14s in advancing to the Regional Finals; a testament to their teamwork, dedication, and skill.

The Under 14 team were also unbeaten at the Shropshire Schools Tournament at Shrewsbury High School, securing victories against seven schools, including Shrewsbury School, Thomas Telford, and Abraham Darby. They now look forward to representing the county at the Regional Finals in February.

Meanwhile, our Under 16 netballers continued their winning streak with a comfortable 50–8 victory over Malvern College in the National Cup.

To top off an exceptional term, our 1st Team competed in the Worcester University Invitation Tournament, facing strong teams from across England and Wales. With victories against Epsom College, Penrith, Berkhamsted, and Stratford, they entered the final against Millfield needing a win to secure the title; and did so in thrilling fashion, clinching victory by just one goal. Congratulations to the team on their determination, composure, and teamwork in another proud moment for Wrekin netball.


Football
A huge result for our 1st Football Team, who produced an outstanding performance to beat Adam’s Grammar 5–4 on penalties in the National Cup. This win sees the team progress further than ever before in the competition; a fantastic milestone in what continues to be an exciting period of growth for football at Wrekin, with more pupils than ever developing their skills and passion for the game.


Rugby
Our Under 16 Rugby Team tied for 1st place at the Shropshire 10s Festival, hosted here at Wrekin. This county-wide event is designed to encourage participation and develop the sport, and our players showed excellent teamwork, commitment, and spirit throughout.


Hockey
Congratulations to our Under 16 Hockey Team, who were crowned Shropshire County Champions after an unbeaten run in the County Cup. With victories over Shrewsbury High School, Ellesmere College, Shrewsbury School, and Moreton Hall, they now advance to the Midlands Finals in November. A brilliant achievement for a talented squad!


From county champions to national cup triumphs, it’s been a half term full of energy, teamwork, and success. Congratulations to all our pupils and staff for their hard work and commitment; a fantastic reflection of The Wrekin Way in action.
