Sport Unwrapped: A Strong Term of Participation and Performance at Wrekin
High participation, competitive fixtures, and standout achievements highlight a historic term of sport.
It has been a highly successful and busy term for sport at Wrekin, with strong participation across all year groups, a wide range of sporting opportunities, and impressive performances in both team and individual competition.
Participation and Engagement
Across the term, 100% of First and Second Form represented Wrekin with 85% of pupils from Year 3 at Wrekin Prep up to Upper Sixth representing the school this term.
Sporting Programme
A total of 25 sports were delivered across the term, showcasing the breadth of opportunity available at Wrekin. This wide-ranging programme allows pupils to explore different sports while developing key skills such as teamwork, resilience, and leadership.

Fixtures and Competition
Wrekin pupils competed in an impressive 821 fixtures during the term, providing regular opportunities for competitive play and development. Netball led the fixture list with 222 matches, with Hockey having 195, Rugby Union 125 and Football 110.
Team Highlights
There have been a number of outstanding team performances this term, including:
- Under 19 Netball finished 3rd in the National Cup, and placed in the top 6 nationally.
- Under 16 Boys Hockey team were crowned National Schools Vase Champions.
- Under 14 Boys Hockey reached the National Finals.
- Under 16 Rugby County Cup winners.
- Under 14 netballers came 4th in the National Cup.
- Under 16 and Under 14 Boys Hockey achieved Midlands Championship success.
- Under 16, Under 14, and Under 12 Boys securing County Cup victories in hockey.
- 1st XI Football crowned SSFA League 2 winners.
Individual Highlights
Pupils have also excelled individually, with many gaining recognition at regional, national, and international level. Successes include:
- International representation in netball, football, and gymnastics.
- Selection for national pathways in swimming and rugby.
- Achievements in a range of sports including fencing, mountain biking, and sailing.
- Multiple pupils representing county teams in cricket and rugby.
- Strong involvement in performance pathways and development programmes.

This term’s Sport Unwrapped highlights a thriving sporting culture at Wrekin, where participation and performance go hand in hand. With a high number of pupils involved in fixtures, a broad sporting offer, and success across multiple levels, it has been a term to be proud of.
