Sports Report

The first week back after the Christmas break saw a number of sports in action.

Netball

Pre-season games at Cheltenham College saw the 1sts winning comfortably, and the Under 14s losing out to Cheltenham's Under 15 team.  On Wednesday, a new look 2nd team had their first outing of the season, claiming victories against both Concord and Adams'.  The 1st team also had a comfortable win against Adams'  On Saturday, Lancaster Under 12 & Under 13 teams, the Under 14s and Under 15 teams took on Abraham Darby, all winning comfortably.

Special mention goes to two of our netballers! Lulu made her debut, playing for Severn Stars Under 19s against Saracens Mavericks at Hertfordshire University. Ella also recently represented Wrekin for Stars Under 19s in their opening matches. Wrekin are proud of both girls who are pitting themselves against the very best in the National Performance League.

Hockey

The boys hockey programme got started this weekend with the Under 18s playing in an excellent match against Lichfield Hockey Club, which ended 4-4. A hat-trick for Harry and a Man of the Match performance from Otto were the highlights, but it is worth noting that five players from the 5th Form made their England Hockey League debut.

The Under 14s faced Shrewsbury School and felt the harsh realities of sport- they were winning 2-1 until the last seconds of the game when Shrewsbury found an equaliser.

The Under 15s also played Shrewsbury School, winning 1-0 in a great team performance in an exciting end to end game.

Football

In the National Cup, the Under 15 boys had a convincing and well deserved 6-0 win vs Lakelands Academy. They now progress into the last 16 of the competition!  The senior team unfortunately narrowly lost to Hereford Cathedral School 5-4 on Saturday.

Badminton

Wrekin played Shrewsbury at home on Wednesday, playing some thrilling badminton. It was great to see such effort, enthusiasm, and competitive spirit from our players. They fought valiantly and held up well, but were ultimately defeated 10 matches to 6.
